The cell mode is used to enter a formula for the active cell. All values generated in the cell mode are static values. Any formula you enter in a cell is discarded after the calculations are made—only the results are displayed in the cell.
Step 1
Click a cell in the data window to enter the cell mode.
Step 2
Enter an equals sign to indicate the beginning of the formula.
Enter a cell formula in the formula bar by:
• Typing the formula
• Pasting a function with the Paste Function command (Data menu)
Note: A formula must always begin with an equal sign. The text that follows might include mathematical operators, functions, and/or other text such as references to specific columns and/or cells. If you use the Paste Function command, you don’t need to type an equal sign in the cell.
Step 3
Press Enter or Return to calculate the formula and display the results in the specified cell.
