  2. Entering Formulas in Cell Mode

  4. The cell mode is used to enter a formula for the active cell. All values generated in the cell mode are static values. Any formula you enter in a cell is discarded after the calculations are made‚Äîonly the results are displayed in the cell.

  7. Click a cell in the data window to enter the cell mode.

  9. Step 2
  10. Enter an equals sign to indicate the beginning of the formula.

  12. Enter a cell formula in the formula bar by:

  14. ‚Ä¢ Typing the formula

  16. ‚Ä¢ Pasting a function with the Paste Function command (Data menu)

  18. Note: A formula must always begin with an equal sign. The text that follows might include mathematical operators, functions, and/or other text such as references to specific columns and/or cells. If you use the Paste Function command, you don‚Äôt need to type an equal sign in the cell.

  21. Press Enter or Return to calculate the formula and display the results in the specified cell.
